Scottish Pipes & Drums Supports Veteran’s Day Fundraiser at Industry Hills Golf

Industry Hills, CA  11/11/11

A very successful fund-raising event was achieved once again by the magnificent golf venue known as Industry Hills Golf Club. Weather cooperated as generous participants and supporters raised over one million dollars to support our veterans.  An impressive “missing man formation fly over” in the air only added to the fine presence of our military on the ground. The display of military vehicles and equipment only reminds of the honor and courage that our military has when upholding liberty in every corner of the world. Special thanks to Dave Youpa for his coordination of the event and his invitation to Scottish Pipes & Drums to be part of the event. Thanks Industry Hills Golf for a fine event!

Scottish Pipes & Drums has a winning dancer

Scottish Pipes & Drums is pleased to have a first place winner on the team! With a huge amount of practice and determination (From dancer and all the support team) Cassidy demonstrated the traditional Highland Dances at the yearly meeting of the USIR sponsored dancing competition in Spokane WA. July 23. The event was blessed with wonderful weather, wonderful competitors (from around the US and Canada) and a super setting on the Spokane river. All the dancers that participated showed talent and style and is a reflection of a new generation of highland dancers that capture the unique and specific art of “Highland”.

Bagpipes, Drums and dancing are well represented with SP&D since all the members of the band have a total combined year history that requires a calculator to enumerate! Special recognition goes to Cassidy’s grandmother, who as a top finalist  in the 1969 Worlds Championship in Scotland,  has passed on the real essence of highland dancing that has made this style of dancing art-a style of it’s own- in a time when “dance” has exploded all over the world as a mainstream representative of cultures. As  folklore mentions- behind every great man is a great woman. Cassidy and her hard work and good sportmenship clearly shows that behind a great child is a great mother!

Congrats Cassidy!

Scottish Pipes & Drums Hits the Town!

Monday July 18 2001- Culver City, CA.

SP&D was very pleased to be invited to a very busy and celebratory fine bar and restaurant called RUSH. Right in the heart of the historical area of Culver City hundreds of patrons enjoyed top shelf drinks and a wonderful menu of high end food. The lamb shank is made to perfection.

Rush is now officially 3 years old and with the appearance of Scottish Pipes & Drums the guests really made the party special. The indoor/outdoor floor plan on a California summer night made for a relaxed and comfortable meeting place for all. The owners Brian and Ken were very kind to the band with helping with the dry throat problem that comes with Bagpipes! The fact that Rush also helped with gathering donations for the Culver Palms YMCA was just another example of the classy way this establishment operates.

Happy Birthday Rush! See you when you are 4 !
